With snakes in the basement and cockroaches in the kitchen

I feel like I'm living in the Amazon.

Why I like Spring

Unexpected surprises beside the sidewalk...

Williamsburg

So, this is very late, but I wanted to get this down.

I went to Williamsburg on a school trip to view authentic 17th and 18th century clothing (the focus being on the 1700s) and learning about the fashion and construction of the time. It was an exciting trip filled with LOTS of pained (I gained two HUGE blisters on the balls of my feet, one per foot) walking and information.
All that sewing is done by hand by the Milliner/Tailor (in those days, Milliners weren't just for hats, they actually focused in draping, which is primarily female clothing) that work in the Milliner's Shop in Colonial Williamsburg and by the interns that study there. The internship lasts seven years!

It was such a beautiful and perfect day to be outside that day. Cool breeze, warm sun...

quilting and other updates

So, as I do every summer since I can remember, I rip my room to shreds and clean out. A delayed "spring cleaning" if you will. This summer, I'v approached it a little differently, where I am going to unpack all my stuff, put it ALL away, and then go through things one by one. This is a productive summer consisting of organizing and most importantly - downsizing.

This summer will also consist of a lot of sewing. I plan on recycling and upcycling a lot of my fabric and various articles of clothing into cosmetic bags by my own design (which has been in the works for about two years now, though the pattern is about five years old) and putting them on etsy. The only thing is, I need zippers. Boo.

Other than that, I do plan on making clothes for myself, nice shirts, tank tops, skirts, dresses, etc. The problem is... I'm very impulsive when it comes to cutting things up and stitching and ending up with a mess, but I am VERY good at adapting a premade pattern. So... I think I'll just have to look in my fabric and pattern stash and go from there.

As for quilting, I am SO close to finishing the stitching of my scrap hexagon quilt... so very, very close. There are a few spots that need some extra material, but I'm very proud of it and can't wait for it to be done! So exciting.

Nate is currently in Puerto Rico. His cousin. Camille is getting married today. The weather there and here has been gray, cloudy and rainy :[ I'm also rethinking his gift idea... I think I might have to hold off and make him something smaller as a placer for it.
